Mr Vathanan is an experienced Gynaecologist with more than 24 years of experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is currently working as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Frimley Health NHS, Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals. He specialises in advanced key hole (laparoscopic) surgery and aims to perform major gynaecology surgeries (including total hysterectomy, oophorectomy, etc) via 3 small incisions of 5mm each. With his advnaced ultrasound scanning skills, he runs a one stop approach to gynaecology consultation wherby he consults, examines and perform ultrasound scanning at the same visit, avoiding further delay in diagnosis, so that treatment can be started soon.

In addition to his general Obstetrics and Gynaecology training, Mr Vathanan has undergone advanced training in minimal access surgery, endometriosis, early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology at Imperial College Healthcare, London, Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals, London and North West London Hospitals, London. He has completed a post graduate diploma in Gynaecology and early pregnancy ultrasound scanning at King’s College London. He underwent specialist training in laparoscopic surgery and endometriosis at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and its Endometriosis centre. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and presented in national and international conferences.

Mr Vathanan believes in holistic approach in patient care and his priority is patient safety and transparency. He is easily available for advice. He specialises in advanced laparoscopic surgery including laparoscopic hysterectomy, management of ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, fibroid removal, chronic pelvic pain and hysteroscopic surgeries including hysteroscopic removal of fibroids and reproductive hysteroscopic surgeries. He is an expert in the management of early pregnancy, emergency gynaecology complications (including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy), management of recurrent miscarriages, transvaginal ultrasound scanning for gynaecology and early pregnancy (including 3D scanning). He runs a dedicated recurrent miscarriage clinic and the lead for early pregnancy at his NHS trust.
He is the lead for Laparoscopy and Gynecology simulation at Health Education England, Thames Valley (Oxford deanery), clinical tutor for Southampton University O&G medical students,  Royal College ( MRCOG) Part 3 examiner and educational and clinical supervisor for O&G trainees.
