Waseem Hameed | Colorectal

Mr Waseem S Hameed's specialities:

Colorectal surgery, endoscopy, general surgery.

I am an NHS Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Heatherwood, Wexham Park and Frimley Hospitals (Frimley Healthcare NHS Trust) of more than 10 years standing, where I undertake colorectal cancer surgery, IBD surgery and Crohns and Colitis surgery as part of my specialist interest.

I have also been a Consultant Surgeon and Pelvic Floor Surgery Lead at The Royal Berkshire Hospital where I accumulated an extensive number of colorectal cancer and colitis surgical cases.

I am currently a colorectal cancer lead in my NHS, which gives me key responsibility in helping to deliver a cancer service for the population of East Berkshire and further afield such as South Buckinghamshire, Denham, Wraysbury and Staines.

I am able to offer proctology services such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure and pilonidal sinus treatments on a day case surgery basis.

I have extensive experience in day case open groin hernia repair and more complex abdominal wall hernia surgery.

I am able to see and investigate patients with abdominal pain, bowel issues, hernias, lumps and bumps, indigestion, gall stones, gastro oesophageal reflux and anorectal issues. Colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy are procedures which I also have expertise in.

I trained in the Oxford and Thames Valley region, acquiring knowledge, skills and expertise from some of the UK’s most highly respected surgeons. This included advanced fellowship training in minimal access cancer surgery.

As the surgical tutor for Wexham Park Hospital I am involved in regional board meetings at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, dealing with issues such as surgical resources, workforce issues, and postgraduate medical training for the next generation of surgeons. I am also a university examiner for MBBS and Physician Associate degree courses.

I am part of the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance in my capacity as Colorectal Cancer MDT lead where I am responsible for feeding back data to the alliance and ensuring compliance with standards required as per national cancer care guidelines.

I have an interest in teaching and education, having been a former lead for the gastrointestinal section of the Brunel Medical School Curriculum.
